The Dos and Don’ts of Boring Content

Writing content for your business can be a daunting task. You want to make sure that you’re providing your audience with valuable information, but you don’t want it to be boring. So, what’s a business owner to do? Here are some dos and don’ts of writing boring content.

1. Do be interesting

My website is boring. My Instagram has no personality. I’m the only one watching my TikTok videos. YouTube has completely overwhelmed me. Are people still using Facebook, because I’m sure MySpace has been shut down? Why do all those Snapchat videos look fake?  And I can’t even compete on Linked In!” How do you grab your audience’s attention? You’re a mom and I know all these questions are running through your mind. The truth is, inserting your personality into your content makes it more engaging–people will find themselves more engaged.

2. Don’t be afraid to be different

We all have our own unique flavor and that’s what makes life worth living, don’t be afraid to express yourself! The only way to be different is by being yourself, so stop worrying about what other people think and just live your life as YOU want. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different formats and styles. It’s important that you try new things because the only way to get better at your business is by experience–try new and different to keep things interesting.

3. Do use images and videos

The use of images and videos in your content can be a great way to break up the text. Use images and videos to capture attention. We all know the power of storytelling. Telling stories makes it easier for you to share your message. Visual media allows you to connect in a powerful way, breaking through the clutter and capturing attention. If you’re feeling invisible, images and videos are a great way to make sure your voice is heard breaking things up a bit and ensuring your content is easy to understand.

4. Do proofread and edit

We want to make sure our content is understandable for everyone, so we avoid using jargon. (“okay google, define jargon”). If you’re still stuck, don’t be afraid to ask for help. Get input from friends and family members. Before you post or publish, proofread and edit your work. A one-last review goes a long way. The last thing anyone wants is for their work to get second-hand embarrassment. Grammarly and the Hemingway App have both helped me with my writing–from spelling errors to grammar mistakes at no cost.

5. Do keep your content updated

It’s important to keep your content updated, as the latest information is always the more engaging. What’s trending is a huge asset to your business. Being successful in business requires us to stay ahead of the curve. As female entrepreneurs, we have the unique opportunity to lead the way and show the world what’s possible. There’s no substitute for timely, relevant content that’s fresh, inspiring, and trendsetting. You’ve got this!

6. Don’t plagiarize

Give credit where credit is due.  Partnerships and collaborations are beneficial when creating new content. Respect the work of others and focus on creating original content of your own. For peace of mind, use a plagiarism checker app otherwise you could end up in a lot of trouble. Don’t publish anything until you’re happy with it because perfection is overrated. Don’t hold yourself back because you’re comparing yourself to someone else. Keep being the best you so that one day someone might find inspiration in your words too.

How to Make Boring Content Interesting?

Listening to politicians, a daily commute, filing taxes, and dieting are all tediously boring. Don’t fall into the habit of being boring and having the channel changed. Take pride in the mundane and surprise the world with your unique creativity. “C’mon where’s your sense of humor!” Now that’s something everyone can relate to.
