One of the side benefits to becoming an entrepreneur is that you often end up with a published book. This wasn’t something I planned on doing, but it just happened!
Ideas are always floating around in my head. For me, the best kept secret to writing is just getting started and not worrying about what should go where or how things need structure because that will come naturally as I go along. Plus even the best-written books have an editor.
My Writer’s Block Strategy
Some writers recommend writing like you’re talking to a friend. It’s a technique that allows you to get out of your head. Sometimes a writer gets too caught up in the rules and structure but could easily write an email message. Writers have a name for it, “the-pretend-you’re-talking-to-a-friend technique.”
The best way to get an idea is by talking yourself into it. You can either do this while you’re awake or imagine the feeling of waking up as if it were already done. This technique helps because it takes the pressure away from the end result.
Sometimes when we’re overwhelmed we can write things out. There may be thoughts in our brains where nothing really feels finished but rather just started–and so even after all those words have been put together, every sentence still seems incomplete. It’s okay. Just start writing. The flow comes if you have time to start.
My creativity loses its excitement if I push myself too hard. Doing something else and getting away sometimes serves as the best inspiration. The mundane always frees up my brain giving my creative side a chance to daydream. If I take a break, I can come back with fresh ideas.
When I’m feeling stuck, little tricks like these help me break through the blocks and return to my creative self. Becoming a published author wasn’t part of the “plan”, but it just seems to happen to most entrepreneurs. The secret to writing – and publishing – is simply writing. When we feel stuck or blocked, little tricks can help us break through the barriers and return to our creative selves.
My Entrepreneur Strategy
When entrepreneurs are faced with challenges, they need to remember that these same principles can be applied in tough times. The same is true for when being an entrepreneur, the obstacles are different, but the strategies work.

When I get writer’s block, what I do is take a break from writing. I’ll either go for a walk or watch TV for a bit. Once I come back, I’m usually able to continue writing. If that doesn’t work, I’ll try brainstorming with someone else or starting reading something else (completely different online, or in a book).
If those methods don’t work, then I’ll try focusing on why I’m writing in the first place. What is my goal? Why do I want to write this piece? Once I have a clear understanding of my purpose, it’s usually easier to continue writing.
I totally agree. it is when I’m doing something else and especially when I am resting, I think of things I want to write. I can’t put additional pressure on myself to write.
Thanks for these tips.
It’s neat that you got your book published!
Writing is fun for me, unless I’ve got too much going on, and then I’m all scrambled egg brain!
Keep at it!
