I want to live out the best version of me every single day.
The best version of me faces challenges and disappointment.
The best version of me shows up.
The best version of me is kind.
The best version of me takes care of their physical well-being.

I’m committed to the best version of me.

Gym memberships have never been my thing. I’ve had multiple gym memberships in my lifetime. Club Pilates is the first membership I’ve actually used… and regularly. I joined Club Pilates during the Pandemic. “Can you imagine my disappointment going to my first few classes and then the studio was shut down because the world came to a screeching halt?” We all wondered if small businesses would survive those long days and weeks. Instead, Club Pilates offered Pilates classes on Zoom so members could practice Pilates at home. It worked. The instructors were amazing. They treated us like family on those calls.  They answered questions as if we were still together exercising in person.

Club Pilates and broken wristFast forward to 2023.  I’m living my best life thanks to a machine called the Pilates Reformer. However, as we say in Minnesota, this was the longest winter of my life. I slipped on ice and broke my wrist in February. On the coldest day of the year, I found myself on an operating table getting a plate and a few screws inserted into my vulnerable distal radius. I’ve also learned more about the bones in my body this year, “I broke my ulna”.

Two weeks later I was back in the Club Pilates studio. There was no way I could let all my hard work and discipline from the past two years go wasted. My instructors modified classes for me. I started back at Flow 1.0. When other members used their straps on the reformer pulleys, I focused on strengthening my shoulders lifting my arms without the springs. With each class I slowly gained back my strength.

Club Pilates is a full-body workout that focuses on improving flexibility, strength, and balance through controlled movements and breathing. Classes use the Pilates Reformer to target all major muscle groups which leads to better posture, increased balance, and improved mobility. Despite breaking my wrist Pilates makes me feel stronger, more confident, and happier each time I leave a class.

Broken Wrist at Club PilatesBreaking my wrist has been more mind over matter which is much like working out. Our brains can talk ourselves out of anything healthy especially when it comes to exercising. I honestly wouldn’t still be an active member at Club Pilates if it wouldn’t have been for the instructors. If I hadn’t been in such good shape before falling, I may not have had the willpower to jump back into exercising. Without a doubt my fall could have been much worse than just a distal radius fracture if it hadn’t been for Club Pilates.

As for me, all good things take time. My workouts have been an intentional commitment. I am grateful I have found my home at Club Pilates. Getting back to my own business and typing on a keyboard has been a slow process. Each day is better than the last because I’m committed to the best version of me.
