Life can be a bit intense at times. Hobbies can provide us with an outlet for creativity and stress relief, and they can help us maintain our sense of identity outside of motherhood. As an entrepreneur, your creativity is being poured into your business almost every minute of the day. When your brain is on overload, stepping away seems to spark new energy and more creativity. The disconnect gives your brain a break moving into a different type of pleasure.
When stress brings you down, hobbies allow an outlet to set aside business for a while. The break gives you an opportunity to feel non-productive releasing your mind from the pressures of entrepreneurship. With a hobby you can excel at the simple things which in turn bring you joy and satisfaction. This sense of satisfaction builds confidence and self-esteem so you can go back to your genius zone more relaxed and refreshed with maybe a new perspective.
Hobbies are one of the greatest ways to relieve stress.
Switching gears and engaging in a hobby can be calming and therapeutic, and might just keep you healthy. As an entrepreneur, it may be difficult to pull yourself away from building your empire. When you engage in an activity that gives you happiness and joy, will stimulate work productivity, not to mention better sleep while strengthening your relationships.
At times you may feel a bit boring because you love your business so much and it’s all you live, breathe, and sleep. However, that also makes you boring. Because of the new experiences you are discovering, you have new experiences, fun stories, and skills that make you more interesting. Most entrepreneurs who work hard, also play hard.
Being a mompreneur has its perks! One of my favorite hobbies is growing zinnias. They are so easy to grow and you can get them started in just one day, making it really convenient for those busy moms who don’t have time on their hands (no offense). This summer I grew 13 packets successfully – not bad considering how many seeds there were… My garden of zinnias became a conversation starter, not only did I get satisfaction from planting and weeding but so did the butterflies and bumblebees that would visit me there. Plus my flowers helped pay it forward as they always do–to brighten someone else’s day out in their house with mine!
When the frost came, I cleaned up my garden. Baking sourdough bread became a new hobby and has kept my house smiling wonderful all year round. Plus this is another thing you can share with others without feeling awkward – homemade deliciousness is always appreciated.
We all need hobbies. They allow us to escape from the stress of work, and they give us a sense of purpose outside of our professional lives. For entrepreneurs, this is especially important. Hobbies can help you relax and rejuvenate so that you can come back to your business with fresh ideas and a new perspective.
