Have you ever had a helicopter ride?

My life started out pretty sheltered. In fact, I grew up as a farm kid in rural America with my hometown population being less than 1200 people. The neighboring town was so small it only had a grocery store with the post office inside.  That’s SMALL.

After raising a family of my own, I realized that I need to branch out a bit and start spreading my wings. One of the benefits to starting my online business was that it would allow me to travel the world.

My first mentor happened to be this young beach bum who lived in Maui so I was thrilled to be going to on-site training there with him.  I’m not sure if it’s called workcation or whatever these days, but I definitely planned to soak up the beach and the sun in addition to growing my business.

I was so excited about this trip that I even added three extra days because if I was going to fly that far for that many hours, I was going to make it worth my while and I had so many things I wanted to see and do.

So, after several fun and work filled days I was nearing the trip and things were starting to wind down.  And it’s crazy, because that’s when my favorite part of this trip happened, just sort of by accident.

There I was working from my laptop at the pool and one of the mentors, Amber, got to talking about how we would spend our last hours in Hawaii.

And she proudly announced she was going on a helicopter ride. WHAT!??!!  Instantly, I know that I had to be a part of this.

Was I crazy?  I didn’t really even know her but I HAD to be on that helicopter ride she was going on.

But, we had to pay cash and neither of us had ANY cash on us whatsoever.  Now, back in the old days this would have been an obstacle for me.

Trying to figure out how to find an ATM machine in some unknown location and even paying extra ATM fees for no real reason would have been more than enough reason for me to put an idea to rest.

Yet, now I was forcing myself to be open to new things.  I was embracing new ideas and saying YES to life in a way I never had before.

So, you can bet that we found that ATM machine and took out the cash for that ride.  Amber didn’t have enough cash on her, so I even paid for her ride too!

And then the moment of truth came. We were shuttled to an airfield with a bunch of helicopters and taken to the one we’d be flying in.

We jumped in and took the ride of my life. We flew without doors and windows and it was spectacular. The scenery… the views… it was magical and memorable and it just reinforced my decision to reach out and grab life.

I’m proud to say, it was pretty cool and I can’t wait to go again.  It will likely be something I do on many of my future vacations.

So this once sheltered farm girl, who barely knew of anything outside of Small Town America took a chance at a mentorship program and that opened up a whole new world for me.

Now, I choose to live life to the fullest every day and I embrace change and new things.
