Rest Is Part of the Rhythm
This month I have three trips on the calendar. Chicago, northern Minnesota, and the Grand Canyon.
There was a time when that schedule would have made me anxious. Three trips in one month during a daily writing challenge sounds like a recipe for falling behind.
Instead, I planned for it. I worked ahead. I scheduled posts and emails so they would go out while I was away.
And I realized something along the way.
Consistency does not mean never stepping away. It means planning for the times you will.
Rest is not the opposite of momentum. It is part of the rhythm that keeps momentum going. Nobody can work at full speed without a break forever, and the people who try usually burn out and stop altogether.
The trick is building rest into the plan instead of letting it interrupt the plan. Working ahead before a busy week. Choosing a pace you can sustain. Giving yourself permission to step back, knowing the work will still be there when you return.
Some of my clearest thinking happens when I am away from my desk. Distance has a way of showing you what actually matters.
Plan the pause, and the pause will not break the streak.
Step away when you need to. A good rhythm has room for rest built right into it.
