When Understanding Isn’t Enough
I spent the past month writing about the psychology behind marketing. Dopamine. Trust. Why we chase new ideas. Why consistency matters more than intensity. The more I wrote, the more I realized something about my own business.
Knowing these ideas didn’t automatically make every decision easier. In fact, understanding my own patterns made me realize just how many decisions still needed to be made.
Awareness is powerful. It just isn’t the finish line.
Understanding your marketing is different from knowing what to do next.
This is where so many businesses get stuck. They know their website needs work. They know their messaging feels scattered. They know they’ve started more projects than they’ve finished.
The hard part isn’t recognizing the problem. The hard part is deciding which problem matters most, where to begin, and what deserves your attention before everything else.
Two businesses can appear almost identical from the outside and still need completely different solutions. One needs a clearer offer. Another needs stronger follow-up. Another simply needs to stop chasing every new marketing tactic and consistently do the work that’s already in front of them.
That kind of clarity doesn’t usually come from another checklist. It comes from slowing down long enough to look honestly at your business instead of comparing it to someone else’s.
Clarity doesn’t remove the work. It simply helps you do the right work.
That’s why I created the Marketing Dopamine Strategy Session. Not because another framework will magically fix your business, but because sometimes the most valuable thing someone can do is help you see what you’ve been too close to recognize.
Whether your next step is working through the workbook on your own or sitting down with someone who can help you sort through the noise, the important thing is that you move from understanding to action.
Because insight changes the way you think. Decisions change the direction you’re headed.
The goal isn’t to know more. The goal is to move forward with confidence.
Tomorrow I’ll share one final thought as this month-long Marketing Dopamine series comes to a close.

Lisa, you are so right. A thought is not an action. In our culture, we often take a need to a professional and work on understanding that to death. We can even get into paralysis by analysis. Understanding, without a change in our behavior/strategy, is no change! As you say, ” Insight changes the way you think. Decisions change the direction you’re headed.”
I love this. Understanding is valuable, but decisions create momentum. There’s nothing like the feeling of building momentum instead of chasing dopamine.
Hi Lisa,
What problem are you going to tackle next month?
I forgot to mention that I challenged myself to do the same on LinkedIn.
