Are you stuck in the cycle of trying and not succeeding?
Find out why trying isn’t good enough and how momentum will get you where you want to be.
You’ve been told your whole life that if you try your best, it will be good enough. But what they didn’t tell you is that trying is only a small part of the equation. You can try all you want, but if you’re not taking actionable steps towards your goals, you’ll never achieve them. Just because you’re putting in the effort doesn’t mean you’re going to get the results you want.
The truth is, trying isn’t good enough. You can try all day and all night, but if you’re not taking actionable steps towards your goals, you’ll never achieve them. Just because you’re putting in the effort doesn’t mean you’re going to get the results you want.
There’s a big difference between making an effort and taking action. Making an effort is simply going through the motions without a specific goal in mind. Taking action is being intentional about your efforts and having a plan to achieve your goals.
One of the biggest lies we’ve been fed is that “if we try our best, it will be good enough.” But that’s not always true. In fact, most of the time, it’s not even close to being true. Trying only gets you so far. If you really want to achieve something, you have to take action and be willing to put in the hard work required to make it happen.
So what’s the takeaway from all this? The next time you find yourself saying “I’ll try”, take notice. Trying is only a thought. If you’re trying to achieve something, ask yourself if you’re really taking actionable steps or if you’re just going through the motions. If it’s the latter, it’s time to reevaluate your approach and come up with a plan to take things to the next level. Remember, trying isn’t good enough—you have to take action if you want to see results!
Taking action builds momentum and everything begins to shift.
Action allows you to step into mastery. Trying doesn’t give us tangible results. We have more power than we give ourselves credit for. Momentum will get you where you’re going. Trying will never move you from that dreaded word impossible to living in a world where miracles do exist. Remove the word “try” from your vocabulary and start taking massive action towards your goals.
Thank you for sharing your perspectives on this matter.
Thank you. I appreciate you following along
I remember a quote I heard once, it was something like “once someone tells me they are going to try, I know it’s never going to happen.” I want to attribute it to Janeane Garofalo but I might be totally wrong! Anyway, that concept really stuck with me and I remember it every time the sentence “I’ll try” starts to slip from my mouth. Great reminder, thank you for this, Lisa!
I’m the same way. Thanks for commenting
I’m reading Atomic Habits and am now seeing goals with a different perspective. Have you read it?
Such a great book. I am trying to get my kids to read it. Enjoy!
Loved Atomic Habits, too, need to try and revisit it, lol 😀
Yes. I’ve been coming across more and more great books. But Atomic Habits is a favorite.
I owned an interior decorating business for over 50 years. When someone came and said they wanted such and such if I hadn’t made that I would also say I’ll try and I succeeded. If I didn’t try I wouldn’t know if I could accomplish it. That was my way of learning something new because I wouldn’t quit until I figured it out.
You didn’t just try, you took action. And I love your ‘no quit’ attitude
Hi Lisa, you are right, I am guess being stuck in the research stage is still not the taking action stage, so I will have to be honest and say I am still trying to get my nonprofit off the ground. Thank you for the reflection. Sending love. Jaime
Staying stuck is no fun. Every step counts Jamie! Sounds like your nonprofit is getting off the ground.
