As an entrepreneur, you are always looking for ways to reach the next level.
I get it. You want your business to grow and be successful.
How are you helping others?
Just when you thought you were pushing yourself, you realize you have more to learn. There’s a three-step principle I learned called “Learn, Do, Teach.” If you are an entrepreneur, I want to teach you how to reach your next level of success first.
Here’s how it works.
Learning is the process of taking in information; you’re acquiring knowledge and skills. The second step is doing. Whatever it is you learned, you now take action. Basically, you’re following the steps you’ve learned and using what you’ve learned in a meaningful way. However, the most important step is teaching. It requires a different skillset to share your new knowledge. When you learn for yourself, it’s easier compared to learning to teach someone else.
Congratulations, you’ve become an entrepreneurial educator.
Successful entrepreneurs are great communicators. They can explain complex ideas in ways anybody can understand. Their customers are their students. Entrepreneurship is a lifestyle that requires hours of work, flexibility, and endless amounts of dedication. Most entrepreneurs understand the risks of being self-supporting but choose to pursue something greater for themselves. The most successful entrepreneurs are driven by a deep-rooted passion for helping others succeed. They’re not celebrities. They are helping people solve problems.
We’ve moved from an information age, to an entertainment age, and now to an engagement age. Not everyone wants to be sold to. There are a million ways to be an entrepreneur, but engagement is where the magic happens. When your people, your customers, or your leads are engaged in and engaged with learning your solution, the better chance that success will come knocking at your door.
Use the Learn, Do, Teach principle to reach the next level. Here’s the bonus, discover the new buzz word, enter-training, to create engagement. There’s a certain mix of entertaining and educating that produces engagement. Your leads are paying attention to you. As they become interested or curious, they will start asking questions. Here’s your opportunity to collaborate, rather than just hunting for facts.
How do you help entrepreneurs reach the next level?
Show up as an authoritative figure and as an expert in your field because you’ve learned and done the necessary steps. When you get the right mix of teaching and engaging, you have found the formula to the next level.

I enjoy the idea of “the engagement age” – I can completely get it. I do not appreciate when people attempt to insert an IV of information in my veins without my consent. I usually shut those sorts of folks down. I was also reminded of the final chapter of Brene Brown’s “Atlas of the Heart” – she writes of “intellectual humility” which includes having an open mind to other people’s perspectives. Infinitely valuable! Thanks for the blog post.
i agree. i will have to look up the book. thanks much
Hi Lisa, Yes, I believe information is the next currency! I was a K-12 teacher for 20 years and now I am a solo entrepreneur. Your business advice is very useful to newbies in the biz like me. Thank you for sharing. Jaime

Hi Lisa,
At one point I was in a learn, teach mode. I graduated from an Engineering Technology program on a Friday and began Teaching in that program on the following Monday. It was one of the most challenging jobs I ever had. Before the year was up, I felt that I was still in the learning mode and wanted to learn more. I felt that I was just rehashing what I had just learned. So, I registered for a university program and received credit for the first year of an Honours Physics degree. There I found I was in the teaching mode and thinking about how I would have taught things differently. After graduating, I wanted more hands-on time learning to use the new tools that were constantly evolving. Now after retiring I am finding that it is all important and one cannot be done without experiencing the others. Now, being part of a mastermind group is rewarding.
Blog on!
