If a woman establishes and runs her own business and also raises her children at the same time, she’s called a ‘mompreneur’. These working women are inspiring figures for us all because bringing up kids is full-time employment in itself. When mothers with children are earning a living, they face quite a large number of challenges. It is just like managing two jobs at a time.
These multitaskers handle both business and responsibilities of being full-time mommies—with no shame. They balance their home-based business and family-life’s hectic routine, which is not possible without sheer dedication, energy and confidence. They have a strong belief of knowing everything is possible.
Recent Mompreneur Trends
Today there are 50 million entrepreneurs in the U.S. About one in three entrepreneurs are mothers, that’s 30%. Women are beginning their own business twice as fast as men, which is interesting. Research indicates that 57 percent of mompreneurs enter this race at the age of 40 and above. Usually, they start this venture once their kids are over the age of six on average. Meanwhile, 79 percent of mompreneurs are married, and 95 percent have a spouse who also earns. This leaves no room for feeling alone as an entrepreneur.
2 Main Challenges Encountered by ‘Mompreneurs.’
We all know that raising young kids (or young adults in my situation) while establishing and managing a small business is not a piece of cake. You have to go through a lot of struggles and face many challenges.
First, stop judging yourself
There is no room for comparison. Every entrepreneur and every mompreneur struggles to manage time. Getting tasks done related to business is very difficult. Time is one of the most important things in this world. Successful working women try to manage tasks according to their routine. Comparing yourself with those around you pays off, but never compare. The more value you offer makes you a better friend and a better leader of your business and in life. A part of understanding the importance of time is recognizing your own value. Valuing time is key. Life will fly by without it. There’s one thing you can’t buy more of in this world and that is time. We are all given the same amount of time each day. When we fail to take advantage of the benefits that time provides us because we started comparing, we devalue our time. It’s up to you to value your time and realize its importance. Besides, self-judgment is mentally exhausting. As we focus on what we have control over, self-judgment and comparing magically disappear.
Self-Care and a Healthy Lifestyle
Self-care means taking care of yourself so that you can be healthy. This means you can be well, you can do your job, you can help and care for others, and you can do all the things you need to and want to accomplish in a day for every woman and every mom. Self-care means feeding your body, mind, and soul. When you eat healthy and drink water, your skin becomes healthier and more vibrant. Staying positive and surrounding yourself with positive energy manifests in every area of your life. Making time for mindset work has been attributed to all successful entrepreneurs. So whether it’s meditating, exercising, mindful breathing, reading, massages, facials, manicures, maybe a pedicure, or all of the above, you’re filling up your empty bucket. A full healthy bucket helps to gain work/family balance which can be challenging. But it can be a blessing in disguise sometimes for reducing stress and recharging yourself to start with new zeal and zest. Feeling healthier and happier allows you to be ready for anything.
There are many similarities between entrepreneurship and being a mompreneur. Just the fact that you can put your work down in the middle of the day to take your kids out to buy a treat makes everything we do worth it. This is a great reason to keep doing what you do as a mompreneur. Too many women make the mistake of appearing strong or as a superwoman. Don’t fake it to make it, change your lifestyle and get busy doing the things you LOVE doing.
