In this heartfelt episode, I had the privilege of sitting down with Linda Morrison, a courageous speaker, published author, and advocate for those affected by addiction and suicide. Linda’s story is one of resilience, hope, and compassion, as she opens up about her journey through the depths of her son’s addiction and the devastating loss to suicide. Linda’s decision to speak openly about the challenging topics of addiction and suicide is both admirable and impactful. Her book, Dear Heroin. A Memoir of Goodbyes, serves as a touching tribute to her beloved son, Mike.
Chapters of Courage
Today’s conversation may leave with you many questions, but Linda eloquently answers them all in her book, Dear Heroin. The details are a beautiful tribute to her son she loved but lost his life to addiction. Through the lens of Linda we learn the complexities of addiction and its ups and downs. Her book is a memoir of the real life chapters of the addiction journey, the suicide journey, how it became a family disease, and finally onto healing.
In our conversation, Linda bravely shared the winding path of her son’s struggle with addiction. From the initial shock to the relentless cycle of recovery attempts, Linda’s narrative painted a vivid picture of the rollercoaster ride that addiction can be for families.
Adding to the pain of addiction led the devastating loss of her son to suicide and the complexity of emotions that accompany suicide. She importantly explained how addiction is not just an individual battle but a family disease. And not to mention the ripple effect that addiction can have on loved ones, from strained relationships to financial burdens, highlighting the importance of support and understanding within the family unit.
Despite the darkness of her journey, Linda’s story ultimately radiates with hope. She shared her path to healing and recovery, as well as her newfound passion for advocacy. After the interview and after reading Dear Heroin, I’m left with a profound sense of admiration for her strength, resilience, and unwavering compassion for a mother who shared her son’s story. Her willingness to share and advocate for others is a testament to the importance of supporting one another through life’s most challenging moments.
